Couple Therapy for Depression (CTfD): Restoring Harmony and Healing Relationships

Evidence-based Interventions for Communication, Conflict Resolution, and Emotional Well-being

Couple Therapy for Depression (CTfD) is one of the evidence-based, integrative, high-intensity therapies offered with NHS Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services.

It is a behavioural-based couple therapy designed to improve communication, change distressing behaviours, reduce conflicts and change unhelpful assumptions and perceptions.

The model follows National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and competencies that have been identified for the treatment of depression in couples where there is also relationship distress.

How does it work?

  • Reduces damaging interactions between couples by revising perceptions of the relationship, exploring unhelpful interpretations and assumptions
  • Builds emotional openness and closeness to promote understanding and acceptance by improving communication and consciously changing behaviours
  • Explores and helps manage feelings that can lead to emotional over-regulation / under-regulation
  • Develops problem solving skills to help the couple cope with the ordinary and not-so ordinary stresses that arise in everyday relating

After a long wait and debate with myself if I should reach out for help or not, I decided to reach out to Stuart. I’m so glad I did because he helped me get back on track with my life. I felt very comfortable and heard.

I've always been dubious of counselling but having spent time with Stuart following some issues I can wholeheartedly say: 1. Stuart is an absolutely incredible counsellor and a really nice guy 2. Counselling really really works 3. I can't recommend him highly enough 4. The negative review of him is clearly fake!!

I moved from Australia to England and battled many issues during the move. I reached out for help with Stuart and I cannot thank him enough for everything he did back in 2019. I have since moved back to Australia and now living in my dream city and I owe it all to him. He made me see value in my life, I felt comfortable the second I sat down with him, he was understanding, non judgemental and he genuinely cared. I can say Stuart saved my life. He is a pro at what he does

Highly recommend Personally I cannot thank Stuart enough for the last 8 months of support. He has helped me in more ways than I can express. Stuart has such a calming influence and his practice is so personalised to the individual. I would highly recommend Stuart to anyone who is considering therapy, he is very flexible and understanding, he is extremely good at helping you understand yourself and is very good at putting things into perspective and in ways that are easy to understand and reflect upon. Hugely grateful for everything you have helped me achieve Stuart. Thank you

Stuart has shared my own therapeutic journey with me over the last 12 months, through which I've experienced deep insights and wonderful transformation into someone who is now deeply content in and grateful for who I am. As a trainee counsellor myself, I have not only found Stuart's clarity, experience and genuineness of great benefit but very inspiring too.
